Trading of ethno-medicillal plants in the Indian arid zone has been studied in the districts of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur. Of 682 species reported in the Indian arid zone, 131 have been found to be of ethno-medieinal value. Of these, 41 species are collected and sold within Indian arid zone market. Large inter- and intra-district variation in sale prices was found. Of the top 20 species in domestic trade, 12 are from this area. Variation up to five times in their rate vis-a-vis western Rajasthan has been found. It has been concluded that 23 species can be prioritised for cultivation on large scale. Standardisation of product and price support are urgently required to promote herbal cultivation in western Rajasthan.

The rarity of inguinal hernia in females remains a clinical curiosity. Due to its rarity inguinal hernias are much more difficult to diagnose in women than in men. We report two cases of direct inguinal hernia in females. Direct inguinal hernia in females being very rare and therefore is an easily missed diagnosis and should be kept at the back of the mind as a differential while dealing with pelvic problems in females.Keywords

Background:Oral Submucous Fibrosis is a potentially malignant disorder well known for its chronic and resistant nature. The conservative drug treatment that is currently available for this disorder is clearly inadequate.Objective: The study was done to evaluate the efficacy of oral lycopene therapy when used in combination with conventional intralesional steroid therapy in the management of oral submucous fibrosis.
Methods: Thirty patients with oral submucous fibrosis (grade III and IV) were included and randomly divided into 2 groups consisting of 15 each: Group A (oral lycopene with biweekly intralesional steroids and hyaluronidase), Group B (biweekly intralesional steroids and hyaluronidase alone). Mouth opening and burning sensation were recorded from baseline to 6 weeks. Cases were followed up to 3 and 6 months.
Results: We observed a complete relief of burning sensation in all patients of both the groups, There was significant increase in mouth opening among both groups. The patients in the group B had increased moth opening than the group A patients.The results were statistically significant.
Conclusion: Lycopene in combination with intralesional steroids and Hyaluronidase, is highly efficacious in improving the mouth opening and reducing other symptoms in patients with Oral Submucous Fibrosis. No side effects were reported with its usage.

A predictive model for predicting shelf life of modified atmosphere (MA) packed paneer using feedforward artificial neural network is proposed. Feedforward networks with single and double hidden layers were developed with Bayesian regularization. The best fitting for single hidden layer was obtained with 4→24→1, and for the double hidden layers with combination of 4→27→27→1 topology, which made it possible to predict the overall acceptability with accuracy. The developed model can be used for predicting the shelf life of MA packed paneer.Keywords

Artificial neural network model was developed for predicting shelf life of MA packed paneer. Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm along with Feedforward backpropagation was used for experimentation. Moisture, titratable acidity, free fatty acids and tyrosine were used as input parameters, while overall acceptability was taken as the output parameter for developing feedforward ANN models. Data was divided into two disjoint sets, viz. 80% used for training and 20% for testing. The combination of 4à45à1 gave the best fitting, suggesting that developed model has the potential for predicting shelf life of MA packed paneer with accuracy.

Carcinoid tumours are low grade malignant neuroendocrine tumours found mainly in small intestine, lungs. However primary carcinoid tumour is not normally present in the kidneys, this being an extremely rare renal malignant neoplasm with less than 100 cases reported so far, with majority of cases being associated with horse shoe kidneys. We describe a 39 years old male who presented with complaint of pain abdomen in left lumbar region, with solid renal mass detected on Computed Tomography. We treated the patient with radical nephrectomy. Pathological examination revealed tumor cells arranged in trabeculae, anastomosing cords, nests with peripheral palisading, and in cribriform pattern. The 'tumor cells showed round to oval nuclei, stippled nuclear chromatin, inconspicuous nucleoli, indistinct cell borders and scant cytoplasm, findings consistent with carcinoid tumour. IHC was positive for synaptophysin, chromogranin, and Panck. The patient has been kept on follow up to look for any local recurrence or systemic metastasis.Keywords

Aim and Objectives: To assess the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of Amniotic Fluid Index and Umbilical Artery S/D Ratio in the third trimester for the prediction of perinatal outcome and to compare the performance of both the tests.
Materials and Methods: It is a prospective study conducted at a tertiary care centre. AFI and Umbilical Artery S/D Ratio was measured every 4 weeks for high risk pregnancy cases beyond 30 weeks period of gestation and perinatal outcome noted. Results were analyzed by diagnostic tests sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values.
Result: Amniotic Fluid Index has sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values of 55 % – 87.5%, 65 % - 75%, 35% - 60%, 70% - 97% in predicting poor perinatal outcome. Whereas Umbilical artery S/D ratio has sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values of 60 % – 80% , 70 % - 80%, 20% - 80%, 80% - 100% in predicting poor perinatal outcome.
Conclusion: Antepartum foetal surveillance is the cornerstone of management which has been revolutionized by use of Ultrasound. There is a significant association between AFI, Umbilical artery Doppler on perinatal outcome. Both the tests should form an integral part of antepartum fetal surveillance In the present study Umbilical Artery S/D ratio has better performance value than Amniotic Fluid Index in predicting perinatal outcome. Umbilical Artery S/D Ratio is better predictor of perinatal outcome in high risk pregnancies.
